At the tender age of six, Sarah Megginson sold her first piece of writing. It was a highly plagiarised fairy-tale she pedalled to her dad for 50 cents but it remains her first official writing gig. It has given her the confidence to take a punt on an industry as competitive as journalism!
A little over a decade later, she finished high school and then graduated with a Bachelor of Communications, majoring in journalism and marketing. After spending a couple of years working in radio marketing in Townsville, she relocated to Sydney to “become a writer”.
Sarah worked in-house for various magazines and publishers but much preferred the freelance life as she got to dip in and out of different industries and cultures. For her no two days were the same.
She has written for magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Collective and Mortgage Professional Australia. She has also contributed parenting and lifestyle articles for Mamamia, The Glow, SheKnows.com.au and MyGC.com.au.
As an experienced author, journalist and editor, today she specialises in writing about business, property, travel and parenting. Sarah also loves tackling long-form projects, having edited or ghost-written 20-plus non-fiction books on topics as diverse as health and fitness, parenting, property and small business.
You’d think that after working with words all day, she'd want to be as far away from them as possible when she clocks off. But in fact, Sarah's favourite way to end the day is with a cup of tea and a good book. And a small chocolate treat wouldn't hurt.
